Construction Opportunities

On-site construction work is the most popular of Habitat's volunteer opportunities. Portland Habitat for Humanity offers many opportunities for you to help with all aspects of home building.   Please note that all volunteers on the construction site must be at least 16 years of age or older.  If you are under the age of 18 you must be accompanied by an adult 21 years of age or older.

You do not need to be an expert in construction to help out on a work site. There are many tasks that require only a willingness to learn and work with others.  We make every effort to incorporate all willing volunteers regardless of skill level.  Both skilled and unskilled construction volunteers are welcome!

• Skilled construction volunteers provide leadership, professional expertise, and craftsmanship. We especially need people who are willing to lead teams of unskilled volunteers during the work day.
• Unskilled construction volunteers are needed that are flexible, hardworking, self-motivated and willing to help in all phases of construction and tasks with which they are comfortable.

Every morning on-site, our construction site supervisor will outline the tasks to be done that day, and, with the help of the skilled volunteers, teach everyone how to do those tasks.  We will be working on different tasks each day, depending on what stage the home(s) being built are in.  We ask that our construction volunteers commit to working a full day (8:30-3:30), and in return, we promise that you'll have a lot of fun, meet some great people, learn about construction, and feel good about the time spent helping others.

Before coming onto site, we ask that you complete our on-line orientation (either as an individual or as a group).  If you're coming out as a group, consider our TeamHabitat program, which combines a volunteer team-building day with a correlating donation toward the build.  It's a great way to double your impact!
